Forecasters Warn U.S. Residents to Prepare For More Severe Storms This Hurricane Season

Storm data statistics from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that 20,237 significant storms were recorded in 2016, which, at the time, was the highest number in roughly three years. After last year’s hurricane season, however, business owners and homeowners around the country are even more nervous about all the oncoming hurricanes that will surely strike at some point this year.

According to Fortune, after a record hurricane season last year, weather forecasters are warning U.S. citizens to brace for even more damaging storms this year.

Hurricane season is only a few weeks away (officially starting on June 1), named hurricanes could hit the U.S. as soon as May 19th. Forecasters admit that there is currently a low pressure system that is acquiring some subtropical and tropical characteristics as it passes through the Gulf of Mexico. It currently has a 40% chance of turning into a subtropical or tropical depression over the next week. If it does reach those levels and will require a name, it will be known as “Alberto.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has once again announced its action items for homeowners who are looking to avoid severe hurricane damage:
